AF Azar is an illustrator, book designer, and zinester from Ohio. In his free time Azar walks at local parks, where he documents everything he sees and collects lost fishing baubles. He is middling to pretty good at playing video games and still keeps up with the Salmon Run daily grind. An avid thrifter, he loves customizing worn out clothing with patches and buttons, then styling them with hats he knits himself. His most prized possession is his collection of vintage plush toys.

The influence of Azar’s various interests and the connections he’s made through them can be seen in much of his work. He graduated with a BFA in illustration in 2020. His art commonly implements dense texture, limited color palettes that mimic local color, and richly populated environments. He loves to draw little creatures and objects cluttering up tables.
Clients include Cleveland Scene Magazine, Study and Struggle, the Oneshot Podcast Network, Tidehead Studios, and various solo indie game designers. Azar is a member of Strange Deer Press, a Midwestern comic and zine collective. His work was featured in the 2018 exhibition Gender? I Hardly Know Her! at the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery, the 2021 exhibition Back in my day… at the Reinberger Gallery, and the Cartoonist Co-op’s Nib & Ink Fest 2025-2026.
